SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY: Loan duo free to play in Hillsborough showdown

SHEFFIELD Wednesday have received a boost ahead of their Championship tussle with Charlton Athletic after two of the club’s loanees were granted permission to play against the mid-table Addicks.

Jeremy Helan and Mamady Sidibe, on loan from Premier League champions Manchester City and Stoke City respectively, are eligible to feature at Hillsborough, The Star has learned.

It was understood Sidibe’s deal was set to run out after the South Yorkshire derby at Barnsley but a clause in the deal enables the striker to play on Saturday.

Left-back Helan, capped three times at Under-19 level for France, has made five starts while Sidibe was brought on as a late substitute at Oakwell, taking his tally of appearances to four. Mali international Sidibe has not scored since February 2010.

Wednesday’s other loanees are Jay Bothroyd, who is injured, and Barcelona B striker Rodri, who was not named in the 18-man match-day squad at Barnsley.

Meanwhile, Charlton boss Chris Powell has challenged his team to get back to winning ways in the wake of their 2-0 loss at Bolton Wanderers, a result which ended their seven-match unbeaten run.

“We have to move forward and we have to go on a good run again,” said Powell. “The players are disappointed of course but we can learn from it, prepare right again for the next game which is Sheffield Wednesday - and then the busy Christmas period.

“I’ll be looking forward to us getting points again and moving forward and bouncing back from a defeat that shouldn’t have happened.”
