Sheffield Wednesday: Owls eye two new strikers

SHEFFIELD Wednesday boss Dave Jones wants to sign TWO strikers before the transfer deadline - and he could be helped by the loan exit of Chris Lines

Jones’s link with Mamady Sidibe has attracted much of the spotlight but it is now understood than he wants more than one centre forward.

He must offload players before he can bring others in, and the departure of Lines for the rest of season follows last week’s exit of Daniel Jones, who signed fully for Port Vale. There could also be other outgoings.

Sidibe is back at Stoke after his Hillsborough loan spell and played for the first half in a private friendly against Derby yesterday, with his future still unclear. Lines missed the start of this season through injury and made a brief comeback but has not been in the side for recent Championship games.

MK Dons manager Karl Robinson said: “Chris is a player I have admired for a number of years; in fact he is a player I tried to sign two years ago.

“By bringing in Ryan Harley and now Chris Lines, we believe we have the creative spark we have been missing.

“Chris is a talented footballer who scores goals from midfield and I think he will fit in well with our team.”

Lines said: “I really need some playing time, and one club that immediately came to my attention was MK Dons, because I like the way they play the game and they are doing well in League One.”

Meanwhile, Charlton have appealed for volunteers to help clear their pitch of snow and ice and say that there is a doubt about Saturday’s game against the Owls in view of the bleak weather forecast.
