Sheffield Wednesday: Owls line up Rodri exit deal

SPANISH striker Rodri looks set to leave the Owls.

Manager Dave Jones revealed today: “We’re trying to do a deal where he goes back to Spain - that frees up some finances.

“We’re looking at that option. We think we have done something.”

A deal has yet to be finalised for the striker, who was due to spend all season on loan from Barcelona but has failed to settle.

Jones has to offload players before he can bring others in. He confirmed that Rodri would go back not to Barcelona but to another Spanish club.

The player was earlier linked with Real Zaragoza.

Rodri is currently off work because he is ill.

Jones also revealed that he has shelved the attempt to extend Mamady Sidibe’s loan from Stoke and the striker will not be available for Saturday’s match at Charlton.

Sidibe has family and travel issues, as his wife is due to give birth and he has two other children. But Jones has not ruled out the striker coming back at a later stage.

Jones is continuing his bid to keep Jeremy Helan and yesterday visited his club, Manchester City, where he met boss Roberto Mancini and his staff, watched some of the training and spoke to Helan, who has enjoyed his Hillsborough loan spell.

But Jones thinks other clubs will be in for the winger and is unsure what the outcome will be.

Jones also said that young forward Caolan Lavery is joining Southend on loan.
