Sheffield Wednesday: Sidibe challenges for Owls recall

mamady Sidibe could follow the extension of his Owls loan by returning to the side at Bolton today.

Dave Jones has admitted that he plans to rotate his players to a certain degree during the Christmas period.

With Sidibe having impressed Jones during his brief outing as a sub last Saturday, the scene looks set for the Stoke striker to start after missing one game because of a hamstring injury and spending the last two matches on the bench.

Sidibe and Manchester City’s Jeremy Helan have had their loan stays extended until January 19 after negotiations with their clubs were completed on Christmas Eve.

“Both lads wanted to stay; they like the club and have integrated well with the boys.” said Jones, who was keen to retain the duo to keep the squad up to strength during a busy period when there is the risk of injuries, suspensions and fatigue to consider.

Twenty-eight days is the minimum permitted period for emergency loans. Initial one-month stays for Sidibe and Helan ended with last Saturday’s 2-0 win against Charlton.

Jones will still look to bring in new players during the January window.

The Owls boss also said: “Mama did well when he came on on Saturday. Jeremy can play anywhere down the left, and he is getting better.”

David Prutton will be available today after going off in the second half of the Charlton game because of a cut to his nose.

Jones will want to avoid too many changes and upsetting the team’s balance.

He must decided whether to retain Reda Johnson at left -ack after he came through his surprise comeback. Said Jones: “Reda got forward fewer times than ever before; we told him to let [left winger] Jeremy do the running, and that’s how we got 90 minutes out of him.”
