MAMADY Sidibe has issued a big thanks to Dave Jones and the Owls for helping to resurrect his career.

The striker who scored his first goal in nearly three years in the Boxing Day victory at Bolton has also told how he almost quit football.

A knee problem followed two Achilles tendon injuries during his time at Stoke and he had not played a senior game for more than two years until he joined the Owls on loan.

“I was thinking last year it was the end, because there were too many injuries; I missed too many games, and to be out for so long is very hard,” he confirmed.

“I can thank Sheffield Wednesday, especially Dave Jones, because he gave me the chance to play again and come to the Championship. A big thank-you to them.

“It was rehab, rehab for two and a half years.” He would work for months to regain fitness then suffer a new injury: “Three times in a row it happened. But I kept going. I am playing again. For me, it was special to score. To win as well, it is a fantastic feeling. Now we have won three in a row and kept three clean sheets, so hopefully we can keep going like this.

“There is more confidence in the team and everybody is fighting and giving 100 per cent. Everybody is ready for the match at Huddersfield.”

Sidibe was pleased when his loan was extended to January 19.

He said: “For me the important thing is to play. At Sheffield Wednesday it was a great challenge to help the club come up from the relegation zone. The staff have been good with me since I have been here; they gave me confidence. I wanted to stay.

“I need to keep playing well, not just come here and enjoy it. I wear the Sheffield Wednesday shirt and will give 100 per cent.”
