VICTORY in the FA Cup against Hereford at Hillsborough tomorrow could help to revive the Owls’ League One campaign, says captain Nicky Weaver.

He views the tie as more than just an opportunity to enter the cup last 16 and says that the players owe Alan Irvine an improved performance:

“This is an important game, one that we want to win and hopefully it will be followed by the start of a league run as well,” he said.

“It’s not just about the cup; it’s about putting in a performance and getting a result that could lead into the next league game.

“There’s a lot of pressure on us because we haven’t been producing the goods. We need to win and give the fans something to cheer about.”

Weaver revealed after the 4-0 defeat at Leyton Orient that the squad felt they had let down Irvine and the fans.

Then came the 2-2 draw with Yeovil and further pressure on the manager to put things right.

Weaver reflects: “Whether it’s fair or not, there’s pressure on every single manager. At the end of the day, it’s a results-base business.

“Once we cross that line, it’s down to the players and we know it’s not been good enough. We want to repay him with some good results.

“We’re fully behind him; there’s no doubt about that.”
