United hold contract talks with duo
MARK Howard could be offered a permanent contract with Sheffield United after manager Danny Wilson confirmed he would like to sign the former Blackpool goalkeeper.
Howard has spent the past week training with United’s first team squad after failing to agree a new deal at Bloomfield Road and has impressed coaching staff with his training ground displays alongside Steve Simonsen and teenage understudy George Long.
“I’d like Mark to stay,” Wilson said. “Whether that be until the end of the season or for longer than that.
“He’s a good ‘keeper, he’s definitely got something about him but we knew that anyway because he’s someone we’ve been aware of for quite a while and already seen in action.”
As The Star revealed earlier this month, United have also opened talks with Kevin McDonald aimed at extending the midfielder’s terms.
Wilson, speaking ahead of tonight’s League One fixture at Huddersfield Town, predicted an agreement could be reached shortly.
“Hopefully something will be sorted-out soon,” he said. “Kevin enjoys being here with us and we enjoy having him.
“Everything seems to be positive.
“He’s shown exactly why we wanted to bring him here in the first place and it getting better and better all the time.
“Kevin’s done well.”
