Sheffield Steelers 2-0 Coventry Blaze (final)

With three matches left in the Elite League, Sheffield Steelers remain top of the league.

They comfortably beat Coventry Blaze at the Arena with goals from two blueliners.

The side was without several players including Gord Baldwin and Tomas Petruska.

Blaze had their own problems, Steve Goertzen, has been out injured since his last performance at Sheffield Arena on February 21.

Sheffield took just 25 seconds to get off the mark, Cullen Eddy scoring from the right point.

Steelers should have had more - they had three consecutive power plays, but couldn’t take the advantage and Jakub Sindle and Cale Tanaka tested Josh Unice.

Gerad Adams’ men had been in charge for the first 15 minutes, but Blaze started to edge their way back into it.

However most of the middle period saw Sheffield domination, with Ben O’Connor striking a slapshot through traffic for 2-0 at 34;06.

Coventry didn’t offer much to offer offensively, although Ben Arnt sent a piledriver just wide.

Steelers had to defend a two-minute five on three penalty kill in the final session and did so with style to cement the points and ensure Josh Unice could celebrate back to back shut outs.

They go into tonight’s Cardiff match a point ahead of Braehead at the top.
