Doug Christiansen may find his Steelers club having to share third place in the Elite League with former coach Ryan Finnerty, tonight.

Braehead Clan are two points behind Sheffield and will be using one of their four games in hand this evening, against Coventry Blaze.

A Scottish win would see Clan and Steelers locked on 18 points.

Both teams trail behind leaders Belfast Giants and Dundee Stars.

Steelers have a big weekend ahead, with bck-to-back games against Nottingham Panthers.

Coach Christiansen doesn’t think ace scorer Stefan Meyer will fit to play - but the skater hopes he can surprise him.

Speaking on video at thestar.c.uk, Meyer said he had a “very, very good feeling” that he would be available.

“I don’t like to miss games and I’ll be in there to help the team as soon as I possibly can.

“I am a fast healer, so hopefully we get good news and go on from there.”

Meyer was not overly concerned by last Sunday’s home defeat by Giants.

“I thought we played fairly well, its just the luck of the draw.

“We both have good hockey teams, we have beaten each other, so that’s just the way it goes. This league has got a lot stronger, the goals in the previous years...it’s not going to be like that.”

He added: “We have got guys who score goals, you look at the stats, it was just unfortunate it didn’t go in for us (v Belfast.)”
