Sheffield Steelers must move quickly to ensure they keep the core of their League winning team after this weekend’s Play Off season-finale.

So far, they have Cullen Eddy, Colton Fretter, Rob Dowd, Mathieu Roy, Ben O’Connor and Jonathan Phillips on a deal for next season.

They will doubtless want to add Tyler Mosienko and Mike Forney to that list.

Inevitably, there will be those who go and that may include Tomas Petruska, Frank Doyle and Gord Baldwin, who have all had their season blighted by injury.

One question is whether the club will keep 10-year servant Jason Hewitt. They have promised him a testimonial, but clearly that would have to be next season, whether they retain him or not.

All the players will get the opportunity to stake a last claim this weekend.

Steelers face Hull Stingrays in the first semi-final today at 1pm, at Nottingham’s NIC rink.
