NEWS travels fast in hockey.

Within hours of Steve Goertzen scoring his first professional hat-trick, at Braehead Clan, pals on the other side of the Atlantic were contacting the Sheffield Steelers’ winger.

“I don’t get many goals, and it was probably bantam hockey (age 13-14) when I got my last hat-trick” the Canadian admitted. “I soon got some messages from home.

“They were razzing (mocking) me, asking what was going on? I am not known to score goals, so it was nice to contribute” said the ex NHL player, who also scored an empty-netter against Nottingham Panthers on Sunday.

“I don’t know when I will get my next hat-trick, hopefully it happens again at a good time, but it is not my sole focus, its just good to help the team win.”
