Defender Harrison McGahey has broken his silence after being included on the list of players released by Sheffield United last week.

McGahey was one of ten players, along with Jose Baxter, Ryan Flynn and Terry Kennedy, who was informed their contracts would not be renewed by new Blades boss Chris Wilder.

The 20-year-old defender joined United from Blackpool in 2014, and made 20 league appearances for the club.

McGahey posted a farewell message to United’s fans on his Twitter account, and wished Wilder’s men well for the 2016/17 campaign.

“It’s been an up and down two years for me and for Sheffield United,” McGahey, who captained United in pre-season, wrote.

“I’ve met some good friends along the way and worked with some great coaches. I just want to thank everyone who has stuck by me. A fresh start will be good and I am looking forward to the next challenge. All the best to the lads for next season.”

A centre-half is thought to top Wilder’s wishlist after McGahey, Kennedy, skipper Jay McEveley, Alex Baptiste and David Edgar all left Bramall Lane.
