Oldham Athletic v Sheffield United tonight

Pride was at stake tonight as Sheffield United travelled across the Pennines to Oldham.

The Latics secured their League One status with a win at Carlisle last Saturday, so there was not much riding on the result other than honour.

Six teams and nine points separated Oldham from eight place Sheffield United, before the action started at Boundary Park.

United made just one change to the starting eleven which beat Port Vale last week with Terry Kennedy replacing the injured Neill Collins.

Collins twisted an ankle during the 2-1 victory at Vale Park.

Connor Dimaio, another product of United’s youth system, featured on the bench.

Jose Baxter returned to his former club.

The Blades could have taken an early lead, John Brayford missing from the centre of the penalty area.

But they went behind when James Wilson headed past Mark Howard from Connor Brown’s cross.

Around the half hour mark, Baxter and Stefan Scougall both put efforts wide but the Blades ended the half goalless.

United had Harry Maguire booked nine minutes into the second session before Brayford again threatened for the visitors.

With ten minutes left, United had a scare when Charlie MacDonald fired just wide.

But Chris Porter, on as a sub, levelled with a right footer from close range, after decent work from Jamie Murphy.

Still Oldham came forward, with Adam Lockwood glancing a header just wide on 87 mins.

And Michael Doyle had an effort saved before the final whistle.
