Harrison McGahey is poised to complete his move to Sheffield United, writes James Shield.
McGahey, who made four appearances for Blackpool last term, will become Nigel Clough’s seventh new signing of the close season after resolving to leave Bloomfield Road.
The 18-year-old made his senior debut for the Championship club against Burnley in April.
Clough, whose players reported back for training yesterday, opened talks with the defender and his representative earlier this month after acknowledging he had been “made aware” of McGahey’s “contractual situation” with Jose Riga’s side.
Barring any unforeseen complications, the youngster will join former Blackpool team mate Chris Basham in South Yorkshire.
Meanwhile, United’s Callum McFadzean will join Burton Albion on loan until January after impressing during a recent spell at the Pirelli Stadium.
McFadzean helped Albion, who will face Clough’s squad in a warm-up fixture later this month, reach May’s League Two play-off final at Wembley Stadium.
United have confirmed they will host Turkish giants Fenerbahce on July 31.
Ersun Yanal’s squad lifted their 19th Super Lig title earlier this year after finishing nine points ahead of arch-rivals Galatasaray.
Diego Ribas da Cunha, Dirk Kuyt and Raul Meireles feature among the most notable names in the 52-year-old’s squad.
Yanal is a former coach of the Turkish national team and took charge of Fenerbahce 13 months ago.
