Ben Davies is poised to complete his transfer to Bramall Lane.
The Derby County midfielder, who joined Sheffield United on loan last season, has informally agreed a move to Nigel Clough’s side following talks with the League One club’s board.
Clough, the United manager, believes Davies will prove a valuable addition to his squad after impressing with his set-piece repertoire and ability to perform a variety of different roles.
“We’re nearly there with Ben,” Clough said. “It’s just about done.
“He’s shown what he can do. He’s someone that we know well, and you always need people like Ben around.”
Clough, who brought Davies to Derby from Notts County during his spell in charge at the iPro Stadium, has already captured Chris Basham, Andy Butler, Marc McNulty and Jamal Campbell-Ryce. Further negotiations are scheduled to take place with Tranmere Rovers over the future of 22-year-old James Wallace.
Clough added: “Ben settled in here really quickly and scored some really important goals.”
