Febian Brandy and Florent Cuvelier, two of Sheffield United’s high-profile summer signings, could be poised to leave Bramall Lane on loan, writes James Shield.
But manager Nigel Clough, speaking ahead of Saturday’s visit to Notts County, reassured the duo that any such move would not signal the end of their careers in South Yorkshire.
“We might look at letting a few go out, Febian and Flo included because, for one reason or another, we’re finding it almost impossible to get them out on the pitch at the moment,” Clough told The Star. “That might happen if we can bring one or two in as there’s been a few inquiries.
“But loans can be hugely beneficial for everyone. The idea behind that would be to give them some football, get them scoring some goals and give them the confidence they’ll need.
“It’s better for us too because, when we need them, they’ll be in better shape. Lyle (Taylor) has gone to Patrick Thistle and scored for them at the weekend which will do him the power of good.”
Clough, whose side are 18th in the table, five places above County, added: “In terms of incomings, we’re looking mainly, but not entirely, at loans but every deal we do is always with a view to something permanent.”
