Jamie Murphy last night revealed how Nigel Clough’s ‘brutally honest’ approach has transformed his fortunes at Bramall Lane, writes James Shield.
The Sheffield United winger, whose club are understood to have identified Aston Villa’s Gary Gardner as a potential transfer target, made the admission ahead of this evening’s League One encounter against promotion chasing Brentford.
“The manager (Clough) has been great since arriving,” Murphy said. “He’s hard but fair and very honest.
“If you do something wrong, he’ll let you know. If you need a confidence boost, he does that as well and all the staff are the same.”
Murphy, previously of Motherwell, added: “They remind me of how Craig Brown and Archie Knox were up there.”
United are attempting to bolster the options at Clough’s disposal by making a series of forays into the emergency loan market with sources in the Midlands yesterday claiming Gardner has joined Crawley Town’s Billy Clarke on the former England international’s wanted-list.
