Blades star Harry Maguire is assessing his options, with Wolves thought to have tabled a £1 million offer for the defender this week.

Although United remain in talks with the England under-21 international over a new deal, Wolves, the League One champions, have submitted a formal bid for the centre-half.

Wolves boss Kenny Jackett is a big admirer of Maguire, named both Player and Young Player of the Year by Blades fans.

It was under a year ago Jackett lured Maguire’s teammate, Kevin McDonald, to Molineux.

A number of Championship clubs are believed to be interested in Maguire, who is contracted to United until 2015. But The Star understands the 21-year-old is in no hurry to make a decision regarding his long-term future.

Speaking to this newspaper earlier this month, United manager Nigel Clough claimed Maguire’s development would be best served by remaining at Bramall Lane.

Clough, who is hoping to make Walsall captain Andy Butler his third signing of the summer following the recent arrivals of Marc McNulty and Jamal Campbell-Ryce, said: “I think Harry is happy and likes playing for the club.

“He’s a home bird and we’d hope to get something settled as well. But he’s still maturing. I think there’s a lot more to come from him.”
