Academy chief Dean Ramsdale says the trio of new young arrivals have not been signed to make up the numbers.

Former Preston midfielder Ryan Croasdale arrived yesterday to join last week’s signings Matt Young and Ed Sanders in penning one year deals, with all three set to join the development squad.

Ramsdale says efforts are being made to strengthen the development squad and none of the three new arrivals would have been picked up if there was not a strong belief they could reach senior level.

“This isn’t a case of making up the numbers,” he said. “We’ve seen plenty of these lads to give us confidence they can make the grade.

“We made the decision not to offer deals to some of the lads we had last year.

“After plenty of discussions with the senior staff we were determined to get the development group up to where we wanted it to be. It should be about feeding players through to the first team.

“These three new lads go a long way towards doing that.”

Ramsdale said more youngsters could be added before next season with a number invited for trials when the Owls begin pre-season training on July 1.
