Sheffield Wednesday have ended their interest in defender Oguchi Onyewu, The Star understands.
The Owls have held several discussions with the USA international’s representatives in recent weeks over the possibility of him returning to Hillsborough on a permanent basis.
However, the two parties have failed to agree on personal terms and thrash out a deal so Wednesday are now looking at other defensive options. It is believed negotiations are ongoing with Glenn Loovens and Jose Semedo.
Onyewu moved to Hillsborough in January following an unsuccessful spell with Queens Park Rangers. The 32-year-old, who has previously played in two World Cups for his country, started 19 times after penning a contract until the end of last season, scoring one goal in their FA Cup triumph at Rochdale. The well travelled centre-half has recently been training with DC United.
