Sheffield Wednesday have today dipped into the emergency loan market and drafted in Aston Villa midfielder Gary Gardner.

The 22-year-old, a graduate of Villa’s youth system, will remain with the Owls until Wednesday March 12.

Gardner, a former England Under-21 international, has played 18 times for Villa’s first-team. He is eligible to play in the Owls’ FA Cup fifth round clash with Charlton Athletic this weekend.

Gardner has been brought in to cover Jose Semedo, who appeared to suffer a serious ankle injury in Tuesday’s defeat to Wigan Athletic.
