Kieran Lee has had the last laugh on team-mates after scoring his first goal in two years with the Owls.

He was the subject of dressing-toom banter for months after missing several chances this season to get off the mark.

But he enjoyed his strike against Ipswich and hopes that he and the club can “kick on” next season.

“It’s nice to score and help the lads out but obviously I’m disappointed to lose,” he said.

“I’ve had a lot of chances this year. I should be on at least five or six. But hopefully I can build on this and get some more next season.

“I’ve been dealing with banter for the last few months now, ever since nothing’s been going in for me. But I can take that!”

Lee feels that the Owls, after only one win in the last eight games of the season, must rediscover the form shown when results improved in the early months of Stuart Gray’s management.

“We need to kick on like we did for the second half of the season,” said the midfielder.

“ It’s fallen away at the end, but when Stu took over we’d probably have taken where we are now. We’ve just got to build on it.”

Manager Stuart Gray and team-mate Chris Maguire both suggested light-heartedely that Lee was unsure how to celebrate his goal.

He said: “I didn’t have a chance! Everybody started picking me up. I couldn’t move in there, It’s nice to score . All the lads enjoyed it as well.”

Wednesday felt they deserved some reward at Ipswich instead of a 2-1 defeat.

Chris Maguire said: “I thought we played quite well and were unlucky not to come away with a win but again it was balls in the box that we switched off with.

“The first goal is a bit unlucky: Emi’s made a great save but the guy has followed it in. For their second goal, the guy’s got a free header in the box. After we got the goal I think we were on top but again it’s easy goals conceded and they’ve cost us in recent weeks.”
