Silverdale's grand national double act

THEY'RE the Trophy guys, twice over, much to the delight of Silverdale School.

In true all-action style, the Under-16 and Under-19 basketball teams took on the cream of the country in the National Championships at Hamel Hempstead and triumphed.

Both teams mastered London opposition ... the Under-16s beat Chadwell Heath Foundation School 105-95 while the Under-19s defeated Greig City Academy 94-68 to claim the President's Trophy and the Admiral's Trophy respectively.

Devon Van Oostrum and John Stewart top-scored for both teams while Jim Rose was among the points for the Under-16s and likewise skipper Will Hall for the Under-19s.

Rose and Van Oostrum received Outstanding Contribution to the Game awards.

Team Manager Helen Duffy said: "Two wonderful teams; they did the school and themselves proud."
