Gifted Sheffield cueman Adam Duffy is through to the final round of qualifying for the Shanghai Masters after a hard-fought 5-4 victory over Jamie Burnett at Doncaster Dome.

Duffy, who practices at Hustlers Sports Bar, in Eckington, along with fellow Sheffield potter Joel Walker, plays Ali Carter this afternoon for a place in next month’s main draw. Colchester-born Carter was recently given the all clear by doctors to pick up a cue again as he continues his recovery from surgery for testicular cancer.

Duffy, who turned professional two years ago, has also beaten Ross Muir in qualifying.

Walker, meanwhile, was thumped 5-0 by Norway’s Kurt Maflin in the second round of qualifying on Thursday, having won his opener against Sydney Wilson.
