Rising star Joel Walker pulled off one of the biggest wins of his fledgling career by upsetting world number 13 Mark Davis in the second round of the Welsh Open.

The Sheffield potter claimed a hard-fought 4-3 win over Davis at the Newport Centre to set-up a last 32 clash with vastly-experienced cueman James Wattana.

The 19-year-old, who has also knocked Pankaj Advani out of the world ranking tournament, told The Star: “It is definitely one of my best wins.

“It wasn’t one of my better performances. We both struggled but I played a good decider. I’m looking forward to playing James [Wattana] but I know I will need to improve if I’m going to progress. He’s had some good results so it won’t be easy.”
