Sheffield’s Josh Bates believes his gamble is paying off after giving up an Elite League team place to ride for the Tigers this season.
The 18-year-old was originally set to ride for Swindon at reserve before instead opting to join the Owlerton outfit in the Premier League.
After a tough start, Bates has hit top form - taking the British Under 21 title earlier this month before notching an incredible 13 point haul against Redcar last week.
And Bates has revealed how much he is enjoying riding for his hometown club as he looks to keep his excellent run of form going.
He said: “My first couple of meetings I was like, ‘what am I doing here?’ I thought I wasn’t really ready for the Premier League but then, all of a sudden, it started to go better. When you are not getting many points, you are a bit down and begin to question whether you are ready, but then you look again and think ‘I am’.
“The last couple of Premier League meetings I have really enjoyed, and things are going a lot better now.”
Sheffield’s trip to Edinburgh last night was washed out.
