Comeback king Adam Roynon has agreed a deal to join Sheffield - but he will race against them this Thursday!
Roynon, who is widely regarded as the unluckiest rider of the modern era after a catalogue of injuries, is without a team place after starting the season with Elite League Coventry and Leicester in the Premier League.
And this Thursday he will spearhead National League glamour club Dudley Heathens in the Ozchem Trophy clash at Owlerton before taking up his Tigers team spot subject to British Speedway Promoters’ Association approval.
Boss David Hoggart said: “Adam has been in dialogue with us for a while, but we’ve been waiting before making a change. Some supporters will say we’ve been too loyal and it is unfortunate that young Jake Knight has had to make way.
“Adam is also unlucky to be without a team place. He got hurt early in the season and his replacements have done a good job so they have kept their place.
“But he is an undoubted talent and last season he was close to being back to his best. He’s a very stylish, professional rider and it’s ironic that he will ride against us on Thursday.
“He’s very highly thought of by the Dudley fans and it’s an opportunity for our supporters to come on Thursday and see him in action. It should be a good night of racing.
“Adam has been very patient with us and now is the time when we are able to make a change. Hopefully it will give us a bit of a boost for the second half of the season and the move can be good for both parties.
“It wasn’t long ago that Adam was in the Great Britain World Cup squad.”
