British Speedway boss Alex Harkess says Owlerton is the perfect venue for the showpiece Premier League Riders’ Championship this Sunday (5pm).
The top rider from every club will be in action - Tigers are represented by Ricky Wells - and Harkess believes the event is one of the biggest on the domestic calendar.
Owlerton is regarded as a facility worthy of Elite League and regular international racing and many experts believe it would be a fine venue for the Speedway World Cup.
And three riders who raced in the summer tournament will be on display this Sunday - Wells (USA), Great Britain man Craig Cook and Australia’s Jason Doyle.
Said Harkess: “The Premier League Riders’ Championship continues to be a major success at Sheffield and we are pleased to be back for the 2013 staging.
“The Owlerton Stadium landlords deserve great credit for the investment in this magnificent multi-sports venue and is deserving of a meeting of this stature.
Sheffield’s Retro Cup clash at Scunthorpe was washed out yesterday and will be restaged on Sunday, September 29.
