Jason Garrity has thanked British speedway bosses and says he’s determined to show everyone what he can do in next month’s British Final.

The Sheffield favourite was selected by the British Speedway Promoters’ Association as one of two wildcards for the event at Wolverhampton on June 15.

Garrity admits he’s fortunate to be in the meeting but is desperate to make the most of the opportunity. He said: “In the semi at Sheffield I just couldn’t make a start and then all of a sudden in my last two I was unbelievable away from the tapes and had two excellent rides and won easily.

“Normally if you pick up nine points in an individual meeting you’re guaranteed a semi-final place, but it was a tough meeting with some good riders and in the end I just missed out. I thank everyone at the BSPA and all those people who made the decision to include me and pick me to be one of the wildcards for the British Final. I’ve got a few things I’m not happy with in my machinery and I’m going to get those sorted in the next week or so, so come the British Final I’ll be back to my best.

“It’s the British Final and as we’ve seen in other years, anything can happen! I enjoyed it last year and I caught a lot of people’s eye in that one and I want to do something similar or better this year. I’ve got a few meetings before that and I want to score well in them for both Sheffield in the Premier League and Coventry in the Elite League. If I can go into that Final with some good form and with a bit of confidence again then I don’t see why I couldn’t be pushing for a rostrum place.

“Wolves’ Monmore Green is a track I love to race on, I always seem to go well there and I’ll keep fighting all the way until I eventually become British Champion.”

There is no meeting at Owlerton tonight as Tigers take a rare Thursday off.
