Sheffield star Andre Compton put in a superb display as Owlerton hosted the British Championship Semi-Final last night.
The home hero Compton raced to a rostrum spot as Grand Prix star Chris Harris stormed to victory. Compton claimed two race wins from his five outings and forced his way past Stuart Robson for second place in the penultimate race to secure his third place finish.
But whilst Compton booked his place in the Final at Monmore Green on June 15, there was disappointment for Tigers’ colleagues Jason Garrity and Ashley Birks who miss out.
Garrity, in particular, can count himself unfortunate to miss out after he was denied a top seven finish on countback after he and Richard Lawson were tied on both points and race wins. Garrity was involved in a scintillating clash with Kennett and Harris in heat six, and although he could only manage third place he bounced back to record two classy wins in his final two rides.
However, it was not enough to overhaul Lawson meaning he will instead travel as track reserve barring being selected as one of two wildcard picks. Meanwhile, Birks experienced an inconsistent evening. He blasted past Robson for second place on the final lap of heat five – but a last place in heat 10 proved costly as he fell short of the top seven on six points.
Supporters were treated to an exciting night featuring some of Britain’s top riders, with former Tiger Josh Auty, Lewis Blackbird and Kennett joining Harris, Barker, Compton and Lawson in booking their Final places.
Sheffield will be back in Premier League action at Owlerton next week as they host Peterborough in a mouth-watering encounter.
