Sheffield pulled off a stunning last gasp race to deny Edinburgh in an Owlerton thriller.
A bumper crowd were treated to some of the best racing of the season as Tigers got back to winning ways.
They gated on a 5-1 in the opener before Sam Masters blasted around Dimitri Berge down the back straight on lap one, forcing them to settle for a 4-2.
The under fire reserve duo of Arthur Sissis and Nathan Greaves conceded a 4-2 in the next as the visitors pulled level.
Kyle Howarth and Jason Garrity both claimed impressive race wins away from the gates before Josh Bates and Howarth tucked in for another 3-3 in heat five.
Stead made the gate in the sixth before Berge worked his way around Kevin Wolbert down the back straight for a vital 5-1 heat maximum.
Garrity and Sissis gated on a 5-1 in the seventh, but a series of mistakes saw the latter end up at the back. Sissis’ lead heat eight until he drifted wide twice once again allowing both Edinburgh riders up the inside.
Heats 10 and 11 were two of the races of the season.
Heat 10 saw all four riders side by side with Erik Riss leading the way before both Berge and Stead steamed past the German.
Riss came back for more before being re-passed up the inside by the Sheffield duo. Berge pulled clear and as Stead went to try and reclaim second place once more, disaster struck as he suffered an engine failure on the final lap.
Heat 11 saw Masters lead comfortably for three laps while Garrity continued to blast it around the boards. The Manchester racer gave it everything and dived underneath Masters on the final two bends to extend the Tigers lead to six points.
A 5-1 away from the tapes courtesy of Stead and Garrity put the Tigers eight points up but a great ride in the dirt from Erik Riss and Bewley took it down to a last heat decider.
The Monarchs gated on another maximum heat advantage but Stead and Garrity earned a hard fought 3-3 to secure a much needed win.
The Tigers are back in action next Thursday at Owlerton when they host rivals Scunthorpe.
