Damien Bates has praised French star David Bellego for his successful return to the Sheffield side after injury.
The Tigers co-owner revealed last week how Bellego had been ‘tapped up’ by rival Premier League clubs during his absence from the Owlerton side. But he’s slotted straight back in as a replacement for Ty Proctor who has been sent back to Australia over a visa issue.
He notched seven-points in his first meeting for over six weeks when Tigers beat Glasgow at Owlerton on Thursday.
And Bates said: “Full credit to David, his injury was nasty and he’s come back and hit the ground running. We didn’t know how he’d perform after not racing for weeks, but he played his part in a great win for the team.
“He comes back at just the right time and it means we no longer have to use the rider replacement facility for Proctor.
“With a guest rider for Simon Stead it now means we are tracking seven riders which is important and hopefully we can kick on from here” said Bates.
“It was nice to beat Glasgow after they turned us over up at their place in front of the Sky cameras. It was a good match too.
“The supporters are fantastic and we were pleased to give them a good result. Hopefully we can kick on from here and we can push for a play-off place, I’m confident we have what it takes to make it.”
Tigers now have a two week break with no meeting at Owlerton this Thursday, the same night as the World Cup race-off in Denmark.
