Tigers are hoping to bring back former star Andre Compton back next season - that’s according to joint manager David Hoggart.
The one-time Premier League Riders Champion made an emotional return to Sheffield colours last season after ending his retirement from the sport.
He had a brief spell with Glasgow but when Hoggart shuffled the Owlerton pack Compton was called back to his parent club.
Now Hoggart wants him back subject to other signings falling into place which would accommodate Compton’s modest average.
“I’ve looked at various permutations and if possible we would like to bring Andre back for a full season here,” said Hoggart.
“He’s still got time on his side to improve and get back to something like we know he can be.
“At his peak he was a very powerful rider, we saw that every week at Owlerton and he will help make us strong at home because he loves riding our track as much as ever.
“All I can say at this stage is that he is very much in our plans for next season but we must ensure other pieces of the jigsaw fall into place.
“I’m very pleased with the start we have made to team building.
“Simon Stead and Adam Roynon love riding around Owlerton and after the tough couple of seasons we’ve had we really need to win meetings at home.
“If we can make Owlerton a fortress then we have the basis of a solid push to the play-offs.
“That has to be the target for next season and it’s something we are looking at when it comes to building our team building.
“But I’m not saying we should neglect our away form, we have to pick points up on the road too.
“Simon and Adam are delighted to be back and I’m sure Andre would welcome a return. If we have a team full of riders who are desperate to race for this club then I’m happy.”
