Super Sheffield put in another convincing home display as they raced to a comprehensive 55-37 victory over Workington last night.

The tremendous Tigers added three more points to their Premier League tally to keep right in touch with the leading pack.

It was another sensational all-around team performance from Jack Lee’s side to comfortably see off a strong Comets side and extend their winning run to three meetings.

They got off to a flying start to quickly establish a ten point advantage – but misfortunate struck Andre Compton as he suffered a puncture whilst comfortably leading a crucial heat seven.

With Rene Bach taking a tactical ride it could have spelled disaster for the hosts, yet reserve Arthur Sissis held his nerve to see off the Workington skipper and maintain the Tigers’ stranglehold on the meeting.

Having limited the damage of the visitors’ bid for double points, in-form youngster Josh Bates maturely held off Hansen once again to take second behind partner Ashley Birks in heat eight.

The Tigers had already asserted their control of the meeting by the halfway stage – but Bates nonetheless bravely picked off both Hansen and Bech to brilliantly snatch second behind partner Bellego in heat 12 and secure victory heading into the interval.

Popular youngster Bates continued his recent purple patch with another smooth showing at reserve, but with every Sheffield rider claiming at least one race win it was truly a team effort.

Guesting No.1 Brad Kurtz once again demonstrated his liking for the sweeping Owlerton circuit as he set the fastest time of the season in heat one, whilst the all-action Jason Garrity showed plenty of determination with another excellent performance.

Ashley Birks continued his upturn in form to play his part in two important 5-1s, whilst David Bellego notched two classy victories on an up and down evening.

Skipper Compton also bounced back from a tough start to his evening to pull off arguably the move of the night as he reeled in Hansen and snatched victory on the final bend of heat 11.

With reserve Sissis also adding four hard-fought points it was a confidence-boosting night for the Tigers as they prepare for their League Cup semi-final first leg at Glasgow on Tuesday.
