Sheffield Tigers couldn’t continue their good home run as league favourites Edinburgh beat the injury-hit Tigers 50-40.

With three guests, three regular Sheffield riders and the rider replacement facility it was always going to be a difficult night for the home side, and it proved to be exactly that.

Missing Simon Stead, Damien Koppe and Adam Roynon, the Tigers put up a good fight and for much of the contest it was neck-and-neck, with Sheffield taking an early lead. Wins for Andre Compton and Ricky Wells nudged Sheffield two ahead but a 5-1 from the visitors in heat six put them in the lead for the first time.

Four consecutive shared heats, with Wells winning two of them, meant Sheffield were still hopeful of a result with five heats left but the Monarchs took control with two consecutive 4-2’s.

When the away duo of Derek Sneddon and Joszef Tabaka raced to a 5-1 in the penultimate heat the win was secured for Edinburgh and the points were on their way to Scotland.

Once again for Sheffield Ricky Wells top-scored, scoring 15 points while guest number one Josh Auty notched paid-nine.
