Talented teenager Josh Bates has revealed how he is planning a winter trip to Australia as part of his preparations for 2015.
The Barnsley racer has made it clear he wants to be back with Sheffield for a second successive season – and he wants to end this campaign on a high.
Tigers have seven league matches to pack in before the cut-off for the play-offs and they face Workington at Owlerton on Thursday before heading to title hopefuls Edinburgh the next night.
Bates has won admirers on the Sheffield terraces because of his all-action style and determination.
He said: “I’m going to Australia to do some racing over the winter which I’m really looking forward to.
“It should be a good experience for me, so I can’t wait for that and then hopefully I can come back to Sheffield and pick up where I left off next year. I’m still only young and I think I’ve come a long way in the last couple of years, so hopefully I can keep on improving next year as well.
“The fact I’ll have been riding over the winter in Australia should help, so if I can just end this season well then it will give me something to build on and improve my confidence going into the winter.”
Bates has recovered well from injury and is set to see the season out with National League Mildenhall on a doubling-up basis.
He said: “It’s good because I need to be riding my bike as much as possible, I love it.
“It’s been a tough season because of the meetings I’ve missed and we seem to have suffered more than most with injury at Sheffield, but I’m sure we can prove what a good team we are with some good results in the final few meetings of the season.
“And I’m sure the management will put together a good team for next season, I just want to be a part of it.”
