Unbeatable Sheffield Steelers Under-16s put on a champion show at the National Championships.
They came through their six-game programme against the top junior sides in the country at Greater Malvern with five wins and a draw, scoring 15 goals and conceding one.
Steelers opened with an impressive 5-0 victory over Stockport Mersey Guild with goals from George Dale, Lawrence Aspin, George Brammer, Alex Hill and long stick Matt Moroney.
Strikes by Aspin, Moroney and Dale brought them a 3-0 success against Rochdale and they followed this up with a 2-0 win over Reading thanks to goals from Dale and James Rosario. The young Steelers then completed their fourth shut-out with a 2-0 defeat of Timperley, a team they’d beaten 21-4 the previous day, courtesy of Aspin and Dale and it was a similar story against Brooklands as Dale and Rosario netted in the 2-0 triumph.
It left them needing to avoid defeat in their final game against a combined Welwyn and Walconian Blues side to take the title. Dale scored his sixth goal of the day and although Welwyn equalised late on, Steelers settled for a 1-1 draw and National glory.
Scorers: Dale 6, Aspin 3, Rosario 2, Moroney 2, Hill 1, Brammer 1. Assists: Dale 2, Aspin 1, Ogle 1, Moroney 1.
An Under-16s A team were beaten 11-2 at Boardman and Eccles, their goals coming from Jacob Clarke and George Brammer 1.
