There was a big surprise in the top division of the Yorkshire and Derbyshire League when leaders Millhouses Works were beaten at Hollinsend Meths. Batting first the home side made 192-8 from their allotted overs with 44 and 43 from Marsh and Newsome respectively.
Richard Everitt top-scored with 42 as Works were bowled out for 130, with Sharp returning figures of 4-18, as they dipped to their second defeat of the season.
Holmesfield closed the gap with a good win at De La Salle OB. They made a useful 208-6 with 76 from Brown and 40 from the prolific Jimmy Pearson but they were unable to bowl out the home side who closed on 151-7.
Third place Parkhead bagged the points at Hathersage. Will Hellewell hit a quickfire 41 in their total of 215-8 - Steve Hutchinson bowled throughout the innings to take 4-91 - and they then dismissed Hathersage for 126 with 16-year-old leg spinner Alex Colley claiming 4-24.
The top match in Division Two saw unbeaten leaders Stocksbridge earn a comfortable victory over second placed Calver who were dismissed for 157 (Hallowes 48; Haywood 5-45). This proved to be well within Stocksbridge’s range who reached their target for the loss of five wickets courtesy of a fine 58 from James Ward.
Parkhead Seconds moved off the bottom of the table after they racked up an excellent 257-6 with Renton making 97. Weston Park made a good reply but were eventually all out for 229 (Saurabh 58).
Promotion seeking Dronfield Woodhouse were also among the runs making 222-6 at home to Hallam Thirds. Chief run makers were Braddock, 94, and David Drew, 67. The visitors were then sent back for 131 with the evergreen John Bridgett taking 4-21.
An excellent all round performance from Steve Woolley gave Ridgeway a four wicket victory over Ashford. He took 5-41 in Ashford’s 178 (McGrath 68) and then hit an unbeaten 42 as his side made 179-6 in reply (Dudley 76, Marsden 4-33).
