Kalcrest Sheffield Steeldogs sit proudly at the top of the Premier League table for a second week but there’ll be no complacency in the camp as they prepare for another tough double-header.

They face a long road trip to last season’s Play-off Champions on Saturday followed by Sunday’s iceSheffield ‘revenge’ clash against last week’s opponents, Basingstoke Bison (5.30pm).

Steeldogs coach, Andre Payette has his feet firmly on the ground: “We’re still taking each game as it comes, concentrating on playing exciting hockey but enjoying the points taken through hard work,” he said.

Their current top placing - on goal difference from Manchester - comes after a hard fought but disappointing one goal loss in Basingstoke followed by a convincing 4-2 home win over Milton Keynes Lightning.

Payette and Janis Ozolins scored the goals in the 3-2 defeat at Basingstoke, the home side taking the points courtesy of an unlucky deflection off a Steeldogs skate which finally beat Man of the Match Ben Bowns who had faced 60 shots.

Ozolins notched a double against Milton Keynes with Andrew Hirst and Edgars Bebris also on target but it was that man Bowns who again collected the Man of the Match award.

“The guys are giving their all each game and I couldn’t be more proud of them all,” added Payette. “To play four games as they have against bigger teams in the league, with probably the youngest set of players, is superb.”

Tickets are available on the door for Sunday’s clash. Adult £9, Concession £6.50, Child £3.50 (Under-8s free) and Family £20.
