Tigers hope to beat the weather

Sheffield Tigers hope to return to competitive action this weekend after their trip to Huddersfield last weekend was called off.

Snow and frost on the Huddersfield pitch meant play was impossible.

The National Two North club will try again this weekend with a home game against Stockport at Dore Moor.

“The extreme weather has allowed our remaining injured players the extra couple of weeks to recover further,” coach Ben Wade said, “but I’m still not bringing them all back yet.”

Centre John Barnes and wing forward Nick Pearson will be left out of this week’s fixture, resting them for the closing stages of the campaign.

Sheffield RUFC, meanwhile, also had a free weekend after their home game against Keighley was called off.

The Abbeydale club, who haven’t played since January 12, travel to Northern this weekend (2.15pm).

Sheffield, who have won the last three games they’ve actually had chance to play, are fourth in the table - level on points with third-placed Morley, and just two behind Wheatley Hills in second.
