DANNY Wilson, the Sheffield United manager, insists his team can enter tomorrow’s League One fixture at Preston North End full of confidence despite their derby disappointment.

Wilson’s side climbed to seventh in the table despite letting a two-goal lead slip during Sunday’s draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

Stephen Quinn, whose first-half strike appeared to have set United on course for a famous victory, spoke of his colleagues’ “devastation” after Gary Madine’s late effort ensured an enthralling contest ended 2-2.

Wilson could scarcely conceal his own frustration after claiming Madine’s effort should have been disallowed but said: “We can still take plenty of positives from the game. I thought we competed well against very physical opponents.”

With Ched Evans’ continuing to repair his reputation in the eyes of United supporters, Wilson’s confidence in his squad’s ability to win at Deepdale is not mis-placed.

The Wales international took his tally for the season to four in seven appearances when he doubled the hosts’ advantage midway through the opening period.

“We coped with the long ball well,” added Wilson. “And I also thought we tried to play some football.

“Now we move on to the next game and put our focus completely on that.”
