There was a net gain for Michael Vaughan as the former Ashes-winning England skipper returned to where it began for him in Sheffield.

Vaughan ‘opened’ the new £30,000 nets at his old club Sheffield Collegiate and then took first knock on the new four lane facility at Abbeydale Park, the ground where he was first spotted by Yorkshire as a youngster.

After the opening ceremony, overseen by Abbeydale President Gordon Hall, Michael, now a media commentator on radio and in newspapers, then cast an eye over the dozens of youngsters taking part in the weekly coaching sessions as part of the Michael Vaughan Cricket Academy.

Collegiate received a grant from the ECB for the net facility.
