Sheffield Women’s Volleyball team made it three wins in a row with a straight sets victory over Coventry and Warwick Riga and now lead Division 2 (North) of the National Volleyball League going into Christmas.
The ‘Badgers’ come through 25-23, 25-22, 25-12 against a club who had previously only lost once this season.
“It was a great serving performance from all the team,” said coach Stephen McKeown.
Riga’s passing unit struggled to cope with Sheffield’s tactical float serving that nullified the visitor’s middle attack.
They next return to action on Sunday January 12 with a cup tie against Birmingham at All Saints Sports Centre.
Sheffield Hallam Men’s trip down to Wessex LeAF BU was not only the last game of the 2013 half of their season but also only their second away game of the season-to-date.
The home team, who included four London 2012 Olympians, took a close first set 25-21 and the second more comfortably 25-18.
Hallam led 18-17 in the third set but a well positioned double block from Wessex helped the hosts to clinch the set and the match 25-22. Overall the match showcased some great volleyball and with one win and one loss to each team’s record, the later stages of the season will prove interesting.
The next match for Sheffield Hallam men will be away to Malory Eagles at Ernest Bevin College in London on Saturday, January 18.
