Sheffield and District Amateur Swimming Association’s annual championship and age group gala started with a big splash caused by a girl aged four-years and 10 months!

Charlotte Clements of Worksop was the latest winner of the association’s long-established Water Babies Cup at Ponds Forge.

The event, traditional curtain-raiser of the gala, is for children under seven years to swim 25 metres.

Each child who completes the distance and the youngest wins the Water Babies Cup, which they keep for a year, and a plaque.

Charlotte, who trains with Retford Nova Club, is the daughter of former Rotherham Metro swimmer Rob Clements.

Grass Roots today includes a picture special of the gala.
