After a weekend of sunshine in which centuries rained down across the MPH Joinery Yorkshire & Derbyshire League, Division One’s rock bottom side, Grindleford, will be hoping for another ray of light when they travel to table toppers Holmesfield at the weekend.

Still without a win all season, Grindleford, were comprehensively defeated out in the peaks by last seasons champions Sheffield University Staff. Staffs racked up an impressive 363-3 with skipper Mayak Sharma making 180 no and Paul Kerry hitting 76 in a one-sided contest that saw the home team end on 116-5.

Holmesfield, who lead the Staffs now by 21 points, cruised to an eight wicket victory against second bottom Sheffield Centralians after they had bowled out their opponents for 73 with Michael Cartwright bowling 4-21.

Parkhead will hope to continue their rise up the table against third bottom Hundall this weekend after an impressive performance by Jamie Carrington led his team to victory over De La Salle.

At Beauchief, La Salle totalled 172-7 after Carrington had bowled 4-40 but then hit an undefated 101 to his wickets as Parkhead strolled to a seven wicket victory. De La Salle, who remain fourth following the loss, will travel to Stocksbridge.

Elsewhere Hollinsend Methodists and Appleknowle will look to bounce back from their defeats last weekend when they play Sheffield Centralians and University Staff respectively.
