If you're not sure what to do today we have a few suggestions for you.

2 Green Drops and Moonsquirters – The Utterly Imaginative World of Lauren Child, exhibition featuring the work of the children's author and illustrator whose creations include Charlie and Lola, Clarice Bean, That Pesky Rat and Hubert Horatio Bartle Bobton-Trent, with playhouses based around the characters for children to physically enter their world, Weston Park Museum, 10am-5pm

3 Bricks and Mortar and People in Burngreave, talk by Shanza Shahzad in the series of Burngreave Seminars on the theme Fair Trade and Inner Cities, Burngreave Academy, New Roots Shop, Burngreave Ashram, Spital Hill, Thursday, 7.30pm-9pm.

4 Roald Dahl Day, extra event hosted by Sheffield poet Matt Black who be talking about the writer, reading some of his poetry as well as two chapters of Boy, his book about his childhood memories, plus the launch of a writing competition and 'find the golden ticket' competitionwith a goody bag of books and other treats up for grabs, Central Children's Library, Thursday, 9.30am-10.30am, 11am-12 and 1.30pm-2.30pm.

5 Murder in the Cathedral, Ribcage Theatre present the drama by TS Eliot, St Oswald's Church, Bannerdale Road, corner Abbeydale Road, Thursday, 7.30pm (£6/ £5, students £3, 2557686 or 2508871).

6 Elizabeth Watts, soprano, returns to the city where she set out on what is becoming an illustrious singing career to perform songs by Mozart, Liszt, Rachmaninov and Hahn. Phillip Thomas is her pianist. Music in the Round. 7 Line Dancing, with tuition, Norton House Country Club, Thursday, 8.30pm (guests £2.20, members £1).

8 National Poetry Day, Ann Atkinson, Poet Laureate of the Peak, and River Wolton, Derbyshire's Poet Laureate, mark the day in their home village by talking about their poetry and how people and places around them influence their craft and creativity, The Maynard, Grindleford, Thursday, 11am

9 That Band Has Balls, band competition, 3 bands battle it out to get through to the next round at Penelopes, Arundel Gate, 7.30pm-late.

10 Grin up North: Al Pitcher - Tiny Triumphs, he counts them up from humble beginnings in Huddersfield to an upbringing in New Zealand and now a life in Sweden, Lescar, Sharrowvale Road, Hunter's Bar, Thursday, 7.30pm; Matt Blaize, classically-trained actor turned gagster, Lescar, 9.30pm (£8 each).
