AMERICAN master choreographer Stephen Petronio brings a programme of three breathtaking pieces to Sheffield Lyceum Theatre next week.
In two of them, Bud Suite and Bloom, the dancers perform some of the most demanding twists and turns that have ever been seen, producing spellbinding dance moves which reflect how ordinary people feel and think which draws on the highs and lows of our everyday lives.
It demonstrates the emotional ability which has given Petronio a reputation as one of the great choreographers of the moment.
But it is the music as much as the movement which is whetting appetites with Rufus Wainwright who has penned the some of the music alongside the choreographer.
In Bud Suite eight dancers negotiate their way through ambiguous, sensuous encounters to the urban lyrics of four Wainwright songs.
In Bloom, a choir from Sheffield Music School will sing excerpts from Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass and Emily Dickinson's Hope is the Thing with Feathers.
In the final piece, Lareigne, the enigmatic dancers glide on to stage to the music of The Stranglers' No More Heroes.
The Stephen Petronio Company, coming to Sheffield on a Dance Consortium tour in association with Danceworks UK, are at the Lyceum next Friday (Oct 10) and Saturday.
