Master choreographer Stephen Petronio brings two breath taking pieces of work to Sheffield Lyceum Theatre in October.
In the two productions, Bud Suite and Bloom, Stephen Petronio creates imagery on stage by getting his dancers to perform some of the most demanding twists and turns that have ever been seen.
The results are dance moves which reflect how ordinary people feel and think, which draws on the highs and lows of our everyday lives. It is this emotional ability which has given Petronio a reputation as one of the great choreographers of the moment.
For Bud Suite and Bloom, Petronio has chosen the lush arrangements of Rufus Wainwright who has penned the some of the music alongside him.
In Bud Suite eight dancers negotiate their way through ambiguous, sensuous encounters to the urban lyrics of four Wainwright songs.
In Bloom, a choir from Sheffield Music School have been asked to join the company to sing excerpts from Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass and Emily Dickinson's Hope is the Thing with Feathers describing how 'billions of billions and trillions of trillions' of buds are waiting to germinate under the snow.
In Lareigne the enigmatic dancers glide onto stage in this fast, smooth, crafted piece of work which is all set to The Stranglers 'No More Heros'.
Founded in 1984, Stephen Petronio Company has performed in 25 countries throughout the world as well as presenting over 30 New York City engagements. New music, visual art and fashion collide in Petronio's dances and he has built a body of work with some of the most talented and provocative artists in the world. The tour is presented by The Dance Consortium and supported by Arts Council England.
The productions are on at the Lyceum Theatre on Friday October 10 and Saturday October 11.
