SHEFFIELD Hallam lecturer and award-winning novelist Marina Lewycka has been given a travelling scholarship worth £1,650 by the Society of Authors.
The writer of A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian and Two Caravans was one of 23 writers who shared £70,000 of prize money at a ceremony in London.

And the writer didn't waste any time in setting off on her travels to Israel and Palestine to research her new book and to link up with another writer over there, Raja Shehadeh, who won the Orwell Prize (for which she was also shortlisted).

Just before she left, she said: "His book is called Palestine Walks, and he's going to take me walking in the hills near Ramallah, and then I hope I'll be able to invite him back and take him walking in the Peak District with me and we'll compare notes."
