Arts lovers are in for a treat when a new exhibition rolls into Barnsley.
A specially-commissioned piece of music will greet visitors to the Cooper Gallery at the launch of Bituminous Illuminations on Saturday.
The exhibition has been put together by Gary Blundell and his partner Victoria Ward, Canadian painters from rural Ontario. Their work, which explores the rich coal seams of the Yorkshire coalfield, will be displayed among other pieces, set to the musical offering, until May 24.
Barnsley Coun Roy Miller said: “This fascinating exhibition shows how artists found inspiration among the coal seams and how beauty can be found in the harshest of environments.”
